Ramadan Revolution
The Battle of Badr was fought - and won - in Ramadan. In this online intensive we will highlight the organic relationship between Sufis as the practice of spiritual jihad (against the ego) and social struggle (against oppression). The effort to build a world based on justice, equity, and human dignity - as we shall see - is predicated on the Qur'anic call to liberate humanity from all internal and external oppressors.
West African Sufis successfully resisted European invasions, abolished the slave trade, and built thriving societies rooted in indigenous and Islamic institutions.
Even under conditions of extreme political subjugation, they were able to lay the foundations for subsequent generations of resistance.
In this course we will explore the teachings of W. African spiritual and social giants like Ahmadu Bamba, Ibrahim Niass, Usman Dan Fodio, Nana Asma’u, Mariama Niass and others on how to renew the soul and effect an internal and external revolution.
